How to Draw a Cartoon House
When we think of cartoons, we often think of the characters first. The setting, however, can be as important.
Think of Goldilocks and the Three Bears: the story would not have been the same without the bear house, where everything was too much, too little, or perfect. What about the gingerbread house that Hansel and Gretel found, the old lady who lived in a shoe, Nemo’s anemone, or even the pineapple under the sea that houses the cartoon character SpongeBob? Without the houses, these and other stories would not be complete.

Would you like to draw your own cartoon house?
Doing so is easy when you use this step-by-step picture tutorial.
You won’t need special tools or skills, just a pencil and a piece of paper. You may want an eraser handy to correct mistakes and some colored pencils, markers, or crayons to shade the finished image.
Following this drawing guide, you’ll notice that an illustration accompanies each step. In each image, the new lines added in the current step are highlighted in blue. The lines marked in the earlier steps are shown in black. Make a light sketch at first, as you’ll be erasing some of your first few lines as you go.
Step-by-step instructions for drawing a house.
Step 1
Begin by drawing a parallelogram or tilted square.
Step 2
Draw a curved stripe to the left of a piece of the diagonal lines.
Step 3
Erase the diagonal guide lines.
Step 4
Draw two curved, parallel lines that extend diagonally from the corner of the parallelogram.
Step 5
Draw another curved line parallel to the rather two. Join the lines using short, explicit lines.
Step 6
Draw a straight line extending down from each of the three visible corners of the roof. Connect the lines using straight lines.
Step 7
Draw a curved chute parallel to the sloping line of the roof. Extend a short straight line from each corner and connect them using a long straight line.
Step 8
Erase the guidelines on the ceiling.
Step 9
Draw a straight line at the bottom of each wall of the house.
Step 10
Enclose a partial oval shape in the front of the house using a long, curved line. This will form the gate.
Step 11
Draw a linear line across the top of the duct. Draw three short, curved lines from this line to each of the corners of the fireplace.
Step 12
Erase the chimney and door guidelines.
Step 13
Draw a series of wavy, scalloped lines across the roof to indicate the shingles.
Step 14
Draw two short, straight lines down the center of the wall. From each line, extend two straight lines up. Connect these lines using a curved line. These closed shapes will form the windows.
Step 15
Draw a circle within a circle above the door to make another window. Draw a series of irregular oval shapes of various sizes between the bottom of the house and the line on the wall. This will give the foundation of the house texture and represent the stone.
Step 16
Draw two groups of curved, perpendicular lines across the circular window. Draw two long, curved lines on the chimney, meeting at a point at each end. This represents the smoke coming out of the chimney.
Step 17
Place your house in an enchanting environment. Draw a series of curved lines in the sky to represent the clouds. Use a series of connected curved lines to form the horizon line near the house’s base. Extend a set of curved lines from the house’s front door, forming a path for walking. Draw several more sets of connected curved lines to indicate tufts of grass.
Step 18
Color your cartoon house. Be creative!
